Fitness Testing
The B-FIT Physical Fitness Assessment program will assess the following components of health-related physical fitness: body composition, cardio-respiratory endurance, flexibility, and muscular strength, and endurance.
The testing is available to all Recreational Sports members and is supervised by faculty, and graduate students in Sport and Exercise Science (School of PAES) and conducted by students completing a practicum in exercise testing.
Your results will be compared with age-and-gender specific norms; and individualized recommendations for exercise will be provided.
Testing Dates - Autumn Quarter TBA *Exact dates will be posted the 3rd or 4th week of the quarter.
The methods of assessment are as follows:
- Cardio-respiratory endurance will be tested using either a maximal graded exercise test on a motor-driven treadmill or a cycle ergo meter and a determination of your maximal oxygen uptake, heart rate, and blood pressure response to exercise and at rest.
- A one-repetition maximum chest press will determine upper-body muscular strength; while a one-repetition maximum leg press will determine lower-body muscular strength.
- Body composition will be determined by measuring skinfold thickness at three sites. The three sites for men are the chest, abdomen, and thigh. For women the sites are triceps, suprailium (hip), and thigh.
- Flexibility of the hip and shoulder joints will be measured by a sit-and-reach test.
- Abdominal endurance will be measured by a one-minute “crunch” test.
- An overall fitness profile, plus individualized recommendations for exercise training will be generated.
Please take note of the following:
- Testing is conducted in the Fitness Training Room located behind the Fitness Center desk. Expect your assessment to last 45-60 minutes.
- Schedule an appointment by placing your name on the sign-up sheet found at the RPAC Welcome Center.
